What safety precautions should be taken when using germicidal UV-C?

UV-C devices are safe to use when used with caution. UV-C light can only cause irritation to people if exposed directly to the skin or eyes for excessive, long-term exposure. The level of irritation relies on the exposure time, the wavelength, the radiation intensity, and the sensitivity of the individual to UV. Prolonged, direct exposure to UVC light can cause temporary skin redness and eye irritation, but does not cause skin cancer or cataracts. At no time do germicidal lamps cause any permanent damage.

How close to the surface do the UV-C light need to be?

UV-C light from wands can have efficient inactivation of bacteria if used approximately 1-2 inches from the surface of the item. For sterilizing a room or space of 20 square feet, a common recommendation is 30 minutes using a UV-C tower.

Does UV-C light kill COVID-19?

Although there are no specific studies to date evaluating the UV inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19), the antimicrobial potential of UV-C light has long been established. UV-C with 254nm works because this wavelength causes lesions in DNA and RNA. Enough exposure to UV-C with 254nm wavelength damages the DNA and RNA so that they can't replicate, effectively killing or inactivating a microorganism or virus. Because the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2) is so new, the scientific community doesn't yet have a specific deactivation dosage. However, recent studies strongly suggest that high exposure using direct UV-C light at a wavelength of 254nm will kill up to 99.9% of most viruses, airborne bacteria and mold spores.

Which type of UV product should I buy?

Wand

Handheld wands provide effective protection from viruses and bacteria on objects/surfaces by simply waving the wand over the specific areas you'd like to sanitize. As it is smaller in size compared to other products, it's convenient to carry.

Tower

UV-C tower is the best option for customers looking to sanitize a room. This device is a reliable option for confined spaces throughout your home to disinfect the air and space. It can inactivate mold and bacteria, but the room or space needs to be empty to avoid human irradiation with UV-C light.

Phone/Box

Because the UV radiation is enclosed within the box, this product is safe even with people around. It can sanitize mobile phones, as well as personal items that can fit inside the box.

Toothbrush Sanitizer

Provides effective protection from dental health hazards. The UV-C light kills the bacteria on your toothbrush, razor and other toiletries.
